Hi,
I'm new, so bear with me!! Looking for some advice about my cat. Sky is about 18months old (being a rescue cat we aren't 100%sure) and she is generally very well. However on the odd occasion she uses her litter tray and I see her use it her stools are quite loose (not watery but like a puddle) the kind that is tricky to get out of the tray in one bit!! I wouldn't say it's frequent and she hasn't had an accident but obviously she must do some outside because I don't clear the tray out every day. So, how do I know if it's a problem? I've kept her on the same wet food she had at the rescue centre and give her biscuits to graze on. Looking for any advice on what to do, if anything?!

Re: New cat owner health query
I suspect it's her diet, even though she's on the same as before. My Elsie is a similar age and we've had her from rescue for about 7 months now, and she occasionally has a bout of the squits. I usually put it down to poor quality control by Felix. On the rare occasions it happens, I put her on boiled white fish for a couple of days and that usually settles her instantly. I let her have some dried to fill up on as well. You might want to look into Hills dried for sensitive stomachs too.

Thanks for the reply. I've kept her on just biscuits today, but unless she uses the litter tray it's tricky to know if it's settled down!! I might keep an eye on it for the next week and see if it settles, or might see what the vet says I guess.

Re: New cat owner health query
Funny you say that Anna. I have a 'blown' pouch of Felix in the kitchen to phone Purina about later. I seem to get one every couple of years. I guess there is a chance that some don't get sealed properly but unless the pouch has blown up like a balloon, we wouldn't know. The last time I phoned them about it, the woman said I had called several times in the past - I said that was down to their quality control. She gave me some spiel about it being fresh meat (LOL) and with them producing such large amounts, once in a while, some air might get in one - I assume it is bacteria?
Admittedy I buy a lot more Felix than Whiskas, but it has never happened with Whiskas.

Re: New cat owner health query
I had a couple of blown ones once, they smelt vile! But with others, I do sometimes notice the cats just won't eat one flavour from a particular batch, whereas they'd been happy to eat it previously. Given the ghastly medley of offcuts and low grade meat etc that go into pet food, I suspect the quality control gets a bit dodgy sometimes. However, I don't get too precious about it containing rubbish, because let's face it, the cat would eat an entire bird/mouse/rat without a second thought, other than carefully excising the gall bladder and leaving it on the carpet for me to tread on!
