Any older cats had anaesthetic?

Post by Stewy »

Hi all, our dear cat who is nearly 12 has a large mass, we are waiting on results now to see what we are dealing with, either lymphoma or spleen. If it's the spleen they can remove it but they are worried he will survive the operation due to his age, plus he does have a heart problem on top of this but to be honest they said he was going to die 5 years ago and he is still with us.

I was just wondering if any of your older cats have had operations and how there were afterwards.

Thanks in advance

difficult to compare given your boy faces a much larger operation, but I had my 13 year old cat go under for a dental and she was absolutely fine.

Just make sure they do bloods beforehand to monitor kidney function etc, take him in the night before if you can so he's on fluids before, during and after the operation and fingers crossed he should be OK.

Best of luck for good news and your boy is with you for a good few more years

I'm so sorry, it's a tough one. All you can do is love him and make the most of the time you have left together. Lots of pics is a good idea, and give him a gentle fuss from me. xx
