Hi everyone, I need some advice on my 2 18mnth old kitties, they go mad scratching round the edges of the carpet even on the stairs. We have put down white vinegar and orange spray put they just find another area where it doesn't smell. They have already ripped a whole in a piece of carpet by the front door and ripped it up so we couldn't open the front door and my hubby had to squeeze through the gap! Any advice would be very much appreciated as we really would like some new carpet soon and worry that will be wreaked within a week!

you could try putting down the old fashioned coir doormats at every threshold they scratch - cats tend to like them as scratching mats, and they are very cheap

the stairs are trickier, but sticking a strong duct tape along the edges might work - and if they take to coir mats they might leave the stair carpet alone anyway

You could try double-sided sticky tape - a big roll from the DIY store is quite cheap, and cats usually hate the sticky feel of it under their paws. It's colourless, so doesn't show. I've found it very successful in areas where one of mine liked to claw the carpet. It can also be used on sofas, etc if cats like to use their claws there.

I agree, I've found double sided tape very effective, even to the point that after a few weeks or so you can take it off and they still won't scratch there.
