Hi there,
Im david and Ive recently adopted Martha, she is a long haired tabby and ive had her for about a week. She has plenty of food,toys and obviously lots and lots of fuss,cuddles and strokes.
Next week she is being spayed and I have recently purchased insurance for her too. My only concern is that I work lots of hours over the weekend,I leave my home about 7.30am and don't normally get back until about midnight thirty. This means that Martha is left on her own for more than 12 hours. She is left with plenty of food,water and toys. And my flat has 4 rooms in which she has access to. I live in a top floor flat so I have no outdoor access whatsoever.
I spoke to the cats protection and they said that she should be absolutely fine providing she has food,water and toys and that when I get home I give double the attention to Martha which I do.
Its only the weekend she's left alone but I still feel guilty but the cats protection said that A, at least she has plenty of room and cramped in a pen and B, I have to work.
I just want Martha to be happy and content and I'd really appreciate any advice or tips from fellow forum members

I agree with the CP - Martha will enjoy having her own flat and human companion after being penned at the rescue, and she'll adapt herself to your routine. She's two, isn't she (have read and posted on your other thread) so she's old enough to chill and do her own thing and I should think she'll just enjoy being in the safe haven she's finally reached, and snooze till you come home

I agree with Lilith (and CP). Cats sleep for a huge number of hours every day, even quite young active cats, and she should adapt to your routine fairly easily. I have had a cat that struggled with being alone, but I soon knew about it as I kept coming home to utter destruction, so you don't need to worry - the vast majority will be perfectly happy once they know the routine.
