Hey guys

The last time I came on here, I was having a hard time with my boy who's urethra kept blocking which kept costing me hundreds each time to unblock and it kept doing it.

He ended up having to be admitted to the Royal Veterinary College in London in March as he got severely blocked and it was agreed he have a urethoscopy. Basically, this means getting the little willy taken off and making an opening in the eurethral tube to act as the 'wee' hole.

He thankfully got through it and the most he suffers is cystitis and one UTI.

Im still crossing fingers and not quite relaxing yet.

This post is really to say if anyone is experiencing their cat is blocking, do message me or talk to me on here as it is a really difficult decision and there is not an awful lot of information on the net about it.

Take care :)

It is a really difficult decision, and I'm glad he seems to be making a recovery. I hope you manage to get to the root of the cystitis issues too, but it must be a huge relief that he's not having to suffer the blockages. Do keep us posted as to how he's doing. Thanks. :)

Yes, our Samuel did. He had crystals in his urine and became very poorly. It is caused by too much concentrate in their urine. The vet changed his diet and encourage exercise. It happens in male cats more as their tubes are narrower for peeing. Also he was kept in at the time as we were renting near a busy road. Exercise helps in cats and the diet change will help. You need to act on it immediately if it happens though as they can go down hill very quickly. Good luck.

I agree, keeping their weight down is vital - when my boy last had a blockage there were four other male cats at the vets with blocked urethras at the same time. Every one of them (including mine) was overweight. I'm convinced that losing a kilo in weight and added water in his diet were the main factors in his recovery but the problem is that that takes time, and when they keep getting blocked it's really tough getting them through that crisis period.
