Frightened Dave

This morning, Dave went out as usual for his constitutional.
I always leave the door open for him. Anyway, after about 20 minutes, he came sidling down the stairs (I didn't know he'd come in)
He looked very nervous and scared. I went to him, but he went behind the sofa, then back upstairs and hid under the bed. He was looking, and acting very nervous.
Every time he heard a voice or loud noise like a siren, he looked around in fear.
I've managed to check him now for any injuries or wounds, but I cannot see any, and he's not in pain. He hasn't asked for his breakfast either which isn't like my boy.
So something happened to scare him out there but I've no idea what. Dog, person, another cat.

He is now sleeping on my bed. Should I leave him alone and just keep checking on him? Poor boy did look badly frightened.

I haven't been in exactly this situation. But my feeling is, whatever is wrong, if the cat can sleep, I'd let him sleep as long as he wants, and try not to disturb him. Sleep is a great restorative. It might be a good idea to keep him in for a few days. At least, watch him to see if he really wants to go out, and don't encourage him to, if he's not keen.

Awwwwww poor Dave, it does sound as though something gave him a bad fright. Hopefully he'll get over it in the next few days, and I'd leave him be and let him get over it in his own good time. Sending a gentle fuss.

Yes, it does sound like something has spooked him, big time! It has happened to ours once or twice - usual culprit is a stray passing through. The kitty equivalent to tea and sympathy usually works for mine.

Poor old Dave, fusses from me when you are able.

Thank you everyone for the replies.
Dave came down at about six o clock and had his dinner then went out. :)
He now seems ok thank goodness.

He says 'meow' and thanks you all for the fusses. :D

Hope your fur babies are all well.

Grace and Dave xx
