Vomitting and off food
So my Evie has been off colour since Sunday, late afternoon. She last ate a full meal Sunday morning, but since then she has only ate nibbles. She has been sick around seven times starting from Sunday afternoon but as she hasn't ate much the last few times she has been sick its mainly been like....spit. Before though is was her food she was bringing up.
We have a vet appt today but just wanted some advice. Evie, the beautiful girl in pic has been rather normal in herself however just slow and takingher time as if she has all the time in the world.

Re: Vomitting and off food
Oh poor little girl. Hopefully it's a bug which will pass quickly. If it were me though I would ask the vet to do bloods in case it's something more significant. x

Re: Vomitting and off food
I think its a bug and I have already had that same thought as you.
I cant imagine she ate something off cause she isnt a cat to do that.

Hi Carol
Sadly she had to be admitted. At first glance vet said she seems good but he took bloods, nothing major however her Potassium was low so it was best she be put on iv fluids. All been well tomorrow night she can come home.
Was a shock cause didnt expect it. As for what brought this on, no idea but as she was vomiting that brought down her Potassium.

Diana I'm sorry to hear that. You must be so worried. Hopefully the fluids will work and she will be so much better tomorrow. You'll be missing her no doubt and counting down the hours til you can get her home. Keep us updated. Thinking of you and little Evie.

Re: Vomitting and off food
Carol I am going insane. Evie is very weary and jumpy round new people so cannot imagine how she is feeling.
She wont eat what they are given her so had to round down there with her food. I hope she picks up....I hate leaving her.

Re: Vomitting and off food
Poor you. I can only imagine how you're feeling. Hopefully she is going to eat something now she's got her normal food.
I know she's scared of new people but believe it or not she may be coping and accepting things better than you think. I completely understand your hating to leave her. I would be exactly the same. It will all be worth it if Evie improves after having this treatment. Hang on in there. Let's see what the morning brings. Sending hugs xx

Re: Vomitting and off food
Hopefully she has ate. I will ring them soon to see if she has ate her food.
I dunno why she suddenly wasn't acting herself but her vomiting is what caused the low potassium so I doubt she would be put on potassium supplement.

Re: Vomitting and off food
Just spoke to them and Evie hasnt eaten her food that I brought in. However being a jumpy cat we seem to think that she wont eat a normal amount being where she is. I mean at home if someone pops in at the time she is eating she will disappear and come back once that person hasgone so I don't expect her to eat much while she is there.

Re: Vomitting and off food
Hi Diana
Just catching up with this.
It sounds very similar to my Henry and Tips who were both hospitalised a few weeks ago.
Vet thinks it was a nasty virus. ABs and antacids eventually worked but it was a worrying time.
Hope she picks up soon.
Fusses to her

Val...yes I remember that story. What worries me is if she comes home with medication I dunno how to get that down her, she doesn't take to medication well at all not that we have tried it but I know what Evie is like.
Let's hope the iv fluids boost her up!
Your two doing well now?

Re: Vomitting and off food
Hi Diana
Tips was the same. And because she wasn't eating we could not sneak it in with food. It was a real battle getting the meds down.
The IV did help, and much as we hated leaving them, certainly helped.
Henry took a linger to be his old self but they are both fine now thanks.
Hope Evie is feeling better soon

What a relief that is!! You must feel so much better now. It would be really useful if the vet can find out what caused this sudden illness. She'll be glad to see you when you pick her up later today. Let us know how you get on.

Re: Vomitting and off food
I can relax now that is for sure!!! Thanks you two.
Vets have confirmed that it is nothing serious, nothing blocking her gut or stomach or anything like that. What it seems is that she was feeling off colour....stomach bug and that caused her to slow down her eating habits. Then of course due to the bug she was being sick which in turn caused her potassium to drop which was the main issue. Although vets confirmed nothing serious it was the nurse who believes it was a stomach bug but vets will explain what went on and what caused her to suddenly stop eating.

Re: Vomitting and off food
So glad to hear that Evie is on the mend. I hope she can come home today to her relieved Mummy and things are straightforward when she does. It's such a scare, isn't it, and a worry. Take care. Fusses to your girl.

Hi.
I've only just caught this thread.
Hopefully Evie is home now. How does she seem? What did the vet say?

Re: Vomitting and off food
She is home. So happy!!
It was a gastro bug but her vomiting and loss of appetite brought her potassium down. Vet had thought to do a scan but as this seems to be a one off caused by a bug there was no need. But if it happens again then a scan would be the next thing to determine if it may be IBD/S.
She is doing well and just had half a tin of Applaws.

Re: Vomitting and off food
Diana that is just brilliant news. I'm so pleased for you. It's a good sign that she's keen to eat.
Hopefully you will both have a better night.
Please give lots of welcome home fusses to Evie from me and Fluffy xx

Great news
She's picked up really quickly which is just what you wanted. Hope her bruise will be ok. I'm sure she will soon forget about her trauma. It does sound so similar to what happened to Val's Henry and Tips.
