Hi,
not having had kittens for a number of years we have recently rehomed 2, they are 14 weeks now and seem to prefer dry food over wet, currently on burgess kitten food but the litter tray stinks... looking for good recommendations of something that will help with the smell as it is taking over our house even when the tray is cleaned straight away...

maybe recommendations for clumping litter that helps smell? currently using the stuff from the Costco in the green container which have always used before, but not helping the smell..

Hi and welcome. I'm afraid I'm not an expert on modern kitten foods but others on here will know .

But I'm wondering if the smelliness might be caused not by the food but because your kittens will be teething. I've observed really stinky (and sometimes sludgy) motions in teething kittens. One used to smell like burnt rubber - ugh! Once her teething was over she was completely normal again, bless her.

Unfortunately it seems to be one of the problems with cats, their poo stinks. I think it has something to do with diet and any animal that eats mainly meat will be smelly, where as plant eaters tend to be less so. Cats however are obligate carnivores and have to eat meat, there for the best option in my mind is a good litter.

I use Catsan clumping litter, it is expensive, but I find it has the best deodorizer I have come across. It is still smelly for a few minutes after they have gone, but then, as long as they have cover it up, the smell fades. While I would still recommend cleaning it as soon as possible it does mean tha the whole house isn't being stunk out when you get up in the morning and they have used it in the night.

Alternatively look for any antibacterial cat litter or any containing fullers earth, both will help get rid of the smell.
