Preparing for a holiday with poorly cat/catteries

Has anyone had any experience of catteries taking poorly cats during holidays? We were on the verge of booking a big holiday in November but are painfully waiting for aspiration results atm for our cat which are due next week. We need to prepare for the worst but we are aware that it could also be something treatable, although hopes are low. We are not booking anything until we have some results to go on but what conditions do catteries tolerate when it comes to illnesses with cats? I know we cannot put our lives on hold but the cattery is our only option if we go away as whilst we have a neighbour looking after our chickens we are not comfortable her coming in to look after the cats.

Hi Emma. A week after Tilly had broken a tarsal bone in her back leg (4.5 years ago, now) I had to go away for a week on business. I had already booked a week at the local cattery (who are very good and trustworthy) for her and Badger. Tilly was not allowed to play with Badger or run around. After discussing with the cattery, they took her for the week and put her in a separate pen with a long horizontal run (one of those they used for the local cat rescue) with Badger in an adjoining pen. There was no trouble at all. I think Badger was more put out than anyone, as he was a sociable chap, liked company and couldn't understand why he was not with Tilly! I have no idea whether other catteries would be as good, however.

Thanks alanc. Always a risk booking holidays or trips away and these things happening just before you go. I have emailed the cattery to ask them but reluctant to book. Even if it is something like a virus or Leukemia they may not take him. Waiting for results is always hellish. I hope Tilly has made a full recovery.
