My cats eyes have been watering the last few weeks and I took him to the vets yesterday and been told that its Conjunctivitis. The vet said to me that he will need eye drops, I said to him how will I get drops into his eyes and he said its quite simple. That doesnt seem to be the case!! I have tried to apply drops into his eyes but I am having no joy at all. Each time I try he tries to close his eyes and I am not getting any drops into his eyes. Has anyone ever had the same problem as me and how did they deal with this? If anyone could give me any advice then that would be great!
He told me I need to apply for 2 weeks, I just dont know what I am going to do
Hi Tara, just jumping in until someone with more experience joins in: can you enlist another person to hold him while you stroke his head fur back firmly? Youtube hosts videos showing the general idea of how to do it, but most of the demonstrators are experts so don't worry if you can't do it with one hand with your eyes closed!
My feline buddy has had ear trouble his whole life, and giving him drops in still stressful: keep calm, and if you don't succeed, relax, try again later. You may have to hold your little pal with more force than you think is ok, but perservere. Have you ever scruffed your feline friend? It looks rough but done right it is fine, and if he need those drops twice a day, you need to find a way to deliver them.
Cats are willful wee gits sometimes, and don't know what's good for them most of the time! I totally understand your frustration and helplessness. You could call the vet and ask them to explain how exactly you are meant to get those drops into those eyes! Most of the time they assume you know how to do it, and it always looks easy in a vet surgery.

worth asking the vet if it would matter if more or less than one drop gets in, as if it doesn't you will feel less pressure if you have to have more than one go - and if all else fails there may be an ointment you could try instead because that should be easier to apply
She's a feisty young lady and bites for no reason so I thought I'd wrap her in a towel ET style. Didn't stop the teeth. Even with help it was impossible. I took to dripping into her eyes from above. She still wasn't happy but it must have worked as her eyes cleared up.
At the moment she's sitting on my lap reading this. She might be purring but a nip won't be far away.
Thanks for the replies. It sounds like putting drops into cats eyes seems a really difficult thing to do seeing as other people struggled as well. A few people said to me to wrap a towel around him and to do it where I am behind him. He did not like been wrapped in a towel one bit! He was crying and hissing, I swear he thought I was going to hurt him or harm him! I then tried to open his eyelid and got the drops in, after I got him out of the towel he was showing me fuss and rubbing himself against my legs!
I think the vet said to put one drop in each eye, when the vet did it it looked so simple but it just isnt! Each day I keep worrying and stressing how I am going to get the drops into his eyes! I think today I am going to try without the towel as I know the towel scared him but I dont know if he is going to scratch me.
Is there anyone who could hold him for you? that would help a lot. That’s what I do with anything like that. Lots of praise, and a treat after for being good helps too. Failing that, I’d ask your vet to show you again. It always looks a doddle though when they do things doesn’t it.
