food behaviour

My cat wants me to stand over him while he eats. if I don't go to, he might bite me, or scratch the carpet. he has constant dry food, & wet food at mealtimes.
My only pet,aged 11, he has been with since a kitten. He is very indep
endent, not really cuddly.I haven't seen any other cats in our garden.
there any more 'clingy eaters' out there?
