Hello.
Just joined here as I have a question about my Cats nipples.
She stays only in the garden when she goes out and we know of 2 occassions within the same week that a Tom came to visit her so we have been keeping an eye out for any pregnancy symptoms. She started eating more and wanting more cuddles and attention over the last few weeks so ive been reading more and more each day of what to look out for and everywhere mentions nipples and reffered to 'pinking up'. So i checked her nipples. But i can honestly say i havnt a clue what they looked like in the first place as its not something ive checked for before and had no reason to go looking at her nipples. What i found isnt the typical pinking of a pregnant cat and nor are her nipples flat like other photos and books i have read. Her nipple teats are long and poke out lots. They are white in colour and when i touch them they almost feel sticky. I was meaning to post a photo of them as i posted this but its prooving quite difficult for her to let me look and take a photo - i will keep trying though. Just on describtion alone what do people think. If she was pregnant it would be 4 weeks in. Would it be fairly obvious by now.

I've no experience of pregnant cats except for one that adopted my family when I was a kid, we didn't even realise she was pregnant until she came back one day a lot thinner.

Posting photos can be a bit tricky as they need to be quite a small file size. The is a thread about it which i would suggest you have a look at, and I personally find that using the Web Resizer site works well.

What I will add is that unless you specifically intend to keep her for breeding purposes, please get her spayed. Not only are there far too many unwanted kittens out there, but she will be happier and healthier for the rest of her life. She may not wander far, but if she is in heat every unneutered tom in the area will be drawn to her.

There are others on here with more experience of pregnant cats so hopefully they will be along to give you more advice.

Pinking up is pretty obvious, but they can sometimes blush and fade; they may not be consistently pink. If your cat has very prominent nipples it may be that she's kittened before - have you adopted her as an adult?

I'm afraid the tom's visits sound as if these two knew what they were doing; toms can be crafty. A friend of a friend adopted a little female living rough in the garden; she was pregnant and along came the kittens ... and at the first opportunity the tom got into the house and ... rabbits? Cats outdo them every time! To make matters worse, when she took the cat for spaying when the second litter was 8 weeks, she was refused. Tiddles was pregnant again ...

I'm not sure how far into a cat's pregnancy it's safe to spay, but you may be saving yourself a lot of trouble if you get your girl to the vet's, and get her spayed if at all possible. It's sad - I too would be sorry about the kittens but as Ruth says there are so many unwanted kittens about that in the long run you'd be doing them, and your cat, a favour.
