Daisy has been very fussy with her food lately..she is on prescription food due to gastrointestinal problems. She was on Hills D/D, vet changed her to Royal Canin Gastro Intestinal Moderate Calorie in about May time. This was fine until a month or so ago...vet suggested changing to regular Royal Canin Gastro Intestinal. Since then, I have also tried Royal Canin Sensitivity - none of which she will eat. She was still fine with the RC Gastro intestinal biscuits, but now she doesn't seem so keen. I had two tins of D/D left which I have been giving her every night, she eats a small amount, but not all. The only thing she shows real interest in is Hills D/D treats.

She comes to her bowl when she hears me preparing the food, but then turns her nose up and walks off. I'm trying to work out whether she is just getting fed up of the prescription food or whether she has a reduced appetite. I was trying to stay positive that she was just fed up with the food? I have noticed she is licking her lips a bit, but otherwise seems OK - drinking normal amounts of water.

As she had a cancer removed from her chin in June, I'm worried it may have spread

***I just opened a tin of tuna - I didn't give her any tuna, but put the juice in her bowl which she licked up immediately. I tipped some juice over what is remaining of her wet food and she hasn't eaten that...hopefully she will go back later for that. Hopefully the tuna juice wont affect her stomach.

Can anyone offer any advice - do you think she could just be being fussy or something more worrying? I've just given her some non-prescription food - a natural, grain free food, which she has eaten. I only gave her about 10 or so kibbles. Surely this is hopefully better than nothing.

Hi Vic, I'm not knowledgeable about these specialised foods but hopefully there'll be people along who are. Have you phoned your vet for advice? Always a good place to start.

I will try and get her into the vets tomorrow...my gut instinct thinks there is something wrong. I have had to feed her something else to encourage her to eat, hopefully her digestion will be OK. However, she has hardly eaten anything

lip-licking is a fairly reliable sign of nausea, which I suspect is behind her fussiness

a vet visit and probably a blood test should give some clues as to the cause - if she will eat biscuits rather than wet food I'd give her some more -wet food usually smells more than dry and that could be putting her off too

I read that it could be nausea...she had terrible sickness previously which was stabilised by steroids. I also saw it could mean kidney problems but she isn't drinking anymore than normal and is urinating normally too.
