Anyone Familiar with Bloods?

Hi there, just wondering is there anyone on here Familiar with Blood results?

My Robbie has lost a lot of weight (around 3 kg) for no apparent reason, always been a fussy picker, tho he is quite fond of pigeon with a pulse (He eats what he kills) Robbie was a stray that appeared about 6 years ago in our garden, and was staying in our shed, it took a long time to get him to gain my trust, saying that, even today, if I am out in the garden or street, He will not come to me

anyway, he has stayed here with us (usually sleeps on the lobby floor even tho he has the run of the house) just in the last 3 or4 months he has lost weight, finally got his bloods done, but the foreign vet is pretty vague about them and I can't get an answer from him, says he is not concerned about results?

Robbie is currently back on Steroids and vet is now speaking about scans?

btw, I do not trust vets, my old vet I trusted, then he retired, vet's that took over seem to be in it for the money, even charged for board when He was in from 9 am 3:30pm

I will post blood results if someone can read them

Blood test results usually show the normal range so you should be able to see what is abnormal in Robbie's results

Googling will then give you a fair bit of info as to what is going on, so you can start to narrow down your further researching

Your vet of course should be your main source of info but the internet can be invaluable if you are, for instance, dealing with hyperthyroidism, which many UK vets seem to be rather ignorant about

UK has the highest number of I-131 clinics in Europe and the vets don't know much on the HT?

they almost always start a newly diagnosed cat on too high a dose of Vidalta, Antonio, instead of a lower dose of Felimazol - my own vet did it which is what sent me to the Yahoo group for more info - and she had not heard of I131 treatment either - and this was at a veterinary centre rather than a small practice

I know lots of other people with the same experience, which makes you wonder what they are teaching our vets at college - hopefully this is now changing

Robbie himself is still not right, he is physically sick at least once a week (that we can see, he still goes out)

I think Vet is speaking about doing more bloods again and if still no change go for a scan, I do not see the point of doing the bloods
again, feels like doing it just to get more money, He has had a long course of steroids which fairly improved his appetite, but now
that course is finished, he is back to his old ways, I feel something else is wrong with him and will tel lthe vet to forgoe the second blood test and just do a scan

anyway, hope someone can maybe make sense of these bloods?

So it could be that Robbie's liver is giving him problems

I can see why the vet would want to repeat bloods, to see what change there is, not sure what an ultrasound would show to be honest, it is clear the liver is an issue, but high urea also indicates infection. I've only had one cat with a liver issue, she had to have a special fasting test that showed what the problem was (she had cholangeohepatitis sp??), so that might be better than a full blood count. She was also sick at least once a week, but don't recall her being given steroids.

For liver issues there are very good supplements that might help a lot to solve the problems.
My cat Pallina had very high liver levels, even higher than Robbie's ones.
I've been giving her these supplements regularly for the past 5-6 weeks now, and the last test ten days ago showed a clear improvement of her liver. This gave me an incentive to keep giving her these pills.

I'm giving her a newly introduced product called BeSame by an Italian manufacturer, Candioli. It's a replacement for Denosyl which is no longer imported here in Italy, but the manufacturer guarantees that it's the same composition.
I also give her a different product by the same manufacturer that I started giving her before the BeSame came into market.
So I give her 1/4 pill of Glutamax Forte in the morning and 1 pill of BeSame in the evening.
She will have a new test in February, I can't wait to see what further improvement we have.

Ask your vet if Denosyl is a solution. It's a supplement, not a medicine, so I wouldn't see why not.

I am still not home, my wife is not happy with Robbie, she has an appointment at 10am

Robbie has been checked by another vet (same practice) this vet gave Robbie a thorough examination..... he thinks there may be several things going on.... might be liver disease, it might be hormonal? He also said he can feel lumps in the abdomin, but whats puzzling him is Robbie has lost all his guard hairs? His chin feel thick too? He has had more bloods taken and has been given another steroid injection and something to stop him feeling sick

My gut feeling on this isn't a good one :'(

Poor Robbie - it's unusual, but males can get mammary cancer. I am puzzled why they keep giving steroids though.

So frustrating not being at home, I can only guess that he gave him another steroid injection to get him to eat? OH told me he has just been picking and is not interested in food... think the blood results will be back monday? They are being sent through to Aberdeen

Ask the vet if you can give Robbie something to wake up his appetite. There are meds that can stimulate the appetite in cat not much interested in food.
A cat with a sick liver MUST eat or he won't ever come out from this situation.
It is called Fat Liver Disease.

Unfortunately, it is not good news

The Vet diagnosed Robbie with Intestinal cancer and there is nothing that can be done.

Robert will have palliative care until he has no longer a good quality of life.

Needless to say I am numb
