Cleaning products

Post by Sonjia »

Hi I am going to start making my own cleaning products for around the home (not directly for use with my cats but for the kitchen and bathroom). I am worried about using essential oils as I know a lot of them are poisonous for cats. What are people's thoughts about using them to clean surfaces?

Lemon juice, bicarb and borax substitute work for most things, I find!

I use 50/50 white vinegar and water, with about 10 drops of pure lavender oil per 5 litres. As lavender plants cause cats no problems I've always assumed pure lavender oil won't either, especially in such diluted amounts.

Hi Sonjia, well done you for making a switch from conventional cleaners. I agree with Kay, I use lavender (and lemon and Tea tree) and have no problems with the cats. In fact we had more problems with harsh, conventional cleaners -lots of sneezing when I cleaned the house.

The trick is to use top quality oils, not cheaper blends and to only use a few drops. Good luck!
