Tilly has pancreatitis again

Had to rush Tilly to the vets this evening as she was being sick and not eating. Seems she is having another bout of Pancreatitis, so she is going to be in hospital for the several days. What was most worrying was how rapidly she became dehydrated - she only stopped eating on Sunday and was already suffering from dehydration.

Oh poor Tilly, and in this good weather too :(

Lots of love to her and all paws and tails crossed here for her speedy recovery.

Tilly appreciates the fuss. She has been re-hydrated overnight and is now on a course of antibiotics and things. She will be staying in hospital for tonight at least.

How is she? What did the doctors tell you?

Her temperature has stabilized, having been too low then too high, but she still isn't eating, so another day in hospital for her.
I think the basic problem is the hot weather - she has far too much fur!

I could say, lucky you with the hot weather. Over here, in the warm Italy, it's nearly like winter time!
Don't the vets have a air conditioner? Is it really hot at the clinic?

Are you allowed to visit her often?

Hopefully the weather will take its own path, and things will improve.

I went to see her today. She has improved and rolled over to let me rub her tummy and scritch her head. Still won't eat much, so she has had a feeding tube installed to try and make her pancreas work on something useful.
Antonio - i should have said it was the hot weather that brought on the trouble - she is being kept in nice air conditioned environment.
Tilly is doing her usual effort and charming all the vet nurses!

Poor Tilly - yes I remember you saying she hates the heat - Antonio I'm amazed, it's chilly in Italy whereas it's really hot here ... well, for the time being

Glad the girl's better in herself, Alan, you'll be wanting her home asap but she sounds to be making the best of it, fusses to her :)

Lilith
House feels empty without Tilly around, but I want her to be cured before I bring her home.
Do have this minor worry that she is enjoying all the extra attention she is getting and wants to stay there!

Poor Tilly, the feeding tube is something that reminds me of bad moments... :(

Glad to read that she's acting playful with the stuff :D

Lilith, we had a bad May, rain everyday, very low temperatures, until Tuesday. Yesterday was rather mild, today seems much better. I don't know ;)

Its very bad news. Tilly seems to have a bad infection of her gut. She is on strong antibiotics but at the moment her immune system is loosing the battle. Trouble is that it is not certain it is an infection, could be a twist in her gut. Vets have never seen anything like her scan and neither had the specialist hospital in Solihull they showed it to. I am very much afraid Tilly is dying.

Alan, I'm horrified to hear. She's not that old either is she?

All paws and tails crossed here that it isn't so, thinking about you both x

Thanks, Lilith. She is only 8. Paw crossing may have done some good as I have just heard from the vets and she has improved considerably, back to the state she was this morning. Everyone is still very worried about her though, especially how fast she can deteriorate, so she will be on special care watch tonight. Still very worried but not as despondent as I was an hour ago.

Paws crossed here too - pancreatitis is nasty enough, without additional complications. It sounds as if she is getting the best of care, and everything possible is being done - my thoughts are with you both.

Hopeful news today, she is improving and more lively, so there is hope. Have to await the results of blood tests and time to see if her liver has been damaged.

Really hoping she's turned the corner - her youth and size ought to stand her in good stead.

All purring for her here! :)

Went to see her today and made a fuss of her. She still is not eating but generally improving, not out of the woods by a long way yet though.

Poor Tilly, glad she's improving, but this is so sad...

Great news today - she is eating again! Her bloods and things are all back to where they ought to be. As long as she keeps going her feeding tube can be removed and she can come home in a day or two.

That is such good news! I am so happy for you, after the anxiety last week. Do you know what triggered the attack so you can avoid it in future?

Thanks folks - it is a great relief to have her well again, though I won't be bringing her home until she has recovered fully. Last Thursday I thought that Tilly was going the same way as Badger did 3 years ago. Thanks to all the excellent care she has had, she has pulled through. I don't know for sure what caused all this trouble, it may have been too much fur in her belly and gut (it seemed like that at the start). I thought I had her loose fur problems under control with regular grooming, but maybe the hot weather induced more molting.
This has all come on top of worries about next door's Tay, who seemed to have succumbed to poisoning (possibly lilly pollen) a few weeks ago, with sky high kidney readings and blood pressure. Fortunately. he has also pulled through, though he is now on kidney food (which his brother Toto likes more than he does). So we now seem to have two cats with miraculous recoveries.

Hopefully Tilly will eat on her own, and the tube can be removed.
Cats, they always give us thrills!
