New cat has become withdrawn

Hi.. Just after a bit of advice. We recently adopted a beautiful, friendly 8 month old kitty. Initially, she was pretty scared, as you'd expect. She spent the first night hiding, but by the second day, she was out and exploring, and was very cuddly with us. She's been eating well and using her litter tray, and for the last week, she was following us around, getting into mischief... Just generally being a kitten. Then, on day 8, (today), she's suddenly all scared again, hiding behind the sofa and not interested in us or playing with her toys. She's eaten a bit, but not been near her litter box all day. Her whole demeanor is subdued, and she has her tail down. She's come from a home full of other cats and people around to being on her own for about 9 hours a day. Does this just sound like a normal settling in behaviour? We did think she was doing unbelievably well, but now we're a bit concerned! Any advice gratefully received!

Hi and welcome Gink :) Your kitten is probably missing her pals bless her. If you can afford the upkeep of two cats it’s good for a kitten to have another feline companion, particularly when you are out, plus they tend to settle in much quicker if they have another feline around. If you are out for a large part of the day, a single, kitten will likely get lonely and bored/scared, which can result in behavioural problems. Many rescues prefer to home young kittens either in pairs, or singly to homes where there is already a resident cat for those reasons. Or it could be that she’s off it, a trip to the vet may be a good idea just in case too. Let us know how she gets on and give her a cuddle from me please.
