Old cat, no stools

Post by Bluebeard »

We have a circa 15 year old diabetic female cat. We are having trouble feeding her which is currently only a thin soup. She is peeing ok but not producing any stools. Is that reasonable??

Hi and welcome :)

I'd say yes. If she's only eating thin soup then there won't be much build-up of faeces - but I'd get her checked out just to make sure there's no problem that needs treating. Sometimes hard faeces can still lodge in the gut and cause discomfort as muscle tone diminishes with age. A vet can usually tell just by palpating the gut.

All the very best with her - good luck.

I would get her checked at the vets asap. While it may (or may not) have been going on for a while, eating so little is not a good sign. There may be an underlying reason why she is eating so little, and/or not producing stools, and this needs investigating.
