Feathers have caused constipation. Will it pass?

Post by Chachki »

Hello, for a few weeks now my cat has been very constipated. He was daily up until he had a UTI injection. He is just over 1 years old. I assumed it was related to the injection, only to have recently discovered that feathers are completely missing. I checked his poo and lo and behold, feathers. Anyway, he is going about every 3/4 days. He is totally fine and normal in every other way. I have completely stopped giving him feathers to play with. Should I be concerned about some kind of blockage? It has been about 6 days now without feathers and he has only pooped twice, still passing them (or at least some of them) through his system. Thank you. Would be nice to hear of any similar stories and their solutions.

I haven't encountered this problem, but I can't see it's that different from hairballs causing constipation, so I would recommend a hairball laxative paste, like https://www.amazon.co.uk/Katalax-Cats-H ... ds=katalax it seems to be highly recommended

if the feathers had hard bony spines though, there must be a possibility of them piercing his bowel, so I would keep an eye out for any blood, or pain

if it turns out he is inclined to constipation with or without feathers, you might find a specialist food like Royal Canin Fibre Response will help
