Ear polyp surgery

Post by Fureverywhere »

My cat, Emily has an ear polyp in one ear. It causing her ear to be very itchy and gunky. My vet mentioned surgery, but his tone suggested it's a nasty and if possible best avoided surgery. But, I see no alternative. My question is who is best to carry out surgery to remove polyps? I'm talking about the surgery which involves breaking a bone to ensure the root of the polyp has been removed. I can't remember what it's called. Is it something any vet can do, or would we be better going to a specialist? We don't have any of the major referral centres nearby and getting to them would be tricky. But we have vets about an hour away which sound as though they are more experienced in this area. If anyone has had experience of this, I'd also be grateful for any tips, suggestions and reassurance. Thank you.

Hi I have hsf this op done on several cats by different vets including one cat who had a complete ear canal removal and all were successful I think most vets should be competent at doing it

Thank you. The vet had another look yesterday and has decided it may be a growth. Emily's having a GA on Thursday so the vet can have a better look and do a biopsy. I'm praying it's something easy to remove, is harmless and never comes back.
