Hi first time posting & need advice pls. Our cat is a rescue after being found with kittens and loss of fur on rear end most likely due to stress according to cat rescue. When she came to us her fur gradually grew back. The problem now appears that she is overgrooming and losing fur from her hind legs and back end but not her tail.
She live with another cat, they are not best mates but tolerate each other have their own space in the house.
I have tried to look for flees eggs but can’t see anything however she is not best at letting me look. Her diet consists of Felix sensations and go cat biscuits. Her poo is also a bit loose (sorry) but does not seem to have diohrea. Any suggestion before a visit to the vets? Could this bee food related. She wasn’t always on Felix sensations but had normal Felix and also gourmet gold pate. Thanks

HI Amanda, we had a cat similar, kept going bald on hind quarters but not tail. But she also got scabs. Vet said flea allergy and we kept flea treatments up to date but it would still happen sometimes. She lived with another cat and she chose to - the first one left home to move in with us and 3 years later she followed him from the same house. They seemed fine together and nobody appeared to be stressed.
Then the other cat died. Her "flea allergy" cleared up and gradually she has become a bright new cat we never knew before - at the age of 20.
Cat relationships are very complex, it could be a factor in your cat's stress. Could be just sensitive skin,or a flea allergy, or an allergy to food even if the recipe is almost the same. I would rule out parasites and anything obvious with the vet and talk about reducing stress as well.
