For those who feed their cats Felix, has anyone noticed that their cats have stopped eating it?

We own two cats who used to love Felix and ate it without hesitation. However a couple of months ago they went off it completely. They take a sniff and then do not eat it. We were wondering if there has been a recipe change and if this is a trait that others have experienced in their cats.

Where do you buy it from? I ask because Tiffany wouldn't eat Felix until I read that there is a different formulae for Europe, so I tried her on Felix AGAIL from Zooplus, and she eats every flavour, whilst one of the two strays I feed outside will only eat the Felix sold in UK supermarkets.

No, no problem - although they get fussy if they have the same flavours all the time, so I change them every now and then. I have to admit they are spoilt and love the sprinkles on top that come with Felix Crunchies. They also love the Felix Sensations Sauces variety, so sometimes I share a sachet between them on top of their regular Felix as an additional treat...

Cats love being spoiled. Strays are never fussy, but they have a personality change when they've got all four paws firmly under the table..

I’ve been giving the Famous Five from Oz the beef, chicken & salmon as well as chicken & turkey. So far so good. Haven’t tried the Sensation Sauces. They get fresh meat & chicken necks at the weekend.

I think mine are both fussy and manipulative, their normal fare is Felix AGAIL, however every so often they start to turn their furry little noses up at it. At that point I normally end up buying a couple of boxes of something else, Gourmet Gold, Gourmet Pearl or even Asda's Tiger brand, all of which seem to go down well for a week or two then it's back to the Felix. This is the reason I end up with several half empty boxes of different cat food in the cupboard, fortunately it has a long shelf life and normally gets eaten before it goes off. i also start limiting their food more if they are leaving loads of it, instead of 2 pouches three times a day between the three of them, if half of what was put down at one meal is still there when i'm sorting out the next they only get one pouch that meal.

There are things that definitely effect their apatite, the temperature certainly does, they eat more when it's cold. I am however also starting to think that the air pressure changes might also effect them, then there is the phase of the moon, and the planetary conjunctions which might have an effect. Of course at the moment you also have to take in to account climate change and Brexit as everything seems to be effected by those two things at the moment.

After reading comments from the experienced cat owners over the years, I now give my cats several brands of food to eat. I no longer stick to one brand of wet food due to them turning up their noses, should the recipe change. I have Felix AGAIL, Whiskas, Natures Menu Country Hunter, James Wellbeloved, Royal Canin, Gourmet and Lily's Kitchen. If they don't like a particular flavour I mix it with dry food and they eat it.

My cat has started acting very picky around Whiskas lately. He's been eating it for 6 months now. I guess it's time to mix things up a little.

Mine used to love AGAIL, but just recently seem to have gone off it, starting with the lamb and salmon varieties. Just lately they lick off the gravy/jelly and leave everything else.

Hey Bobbys girl! How's things? So glad you're back! :D

Yeah mine often go off Felix; someone on here (I think it was Faerie Evenstar) said 'cats are neophiles' and the faddy little beggars do like a change ... when they stop eating the Felix I put down Sheba ... when they stop eating the Sheba I switch them to Felix again ... and they tuck in ...

Yep been having problems with Felix for the past 12 months or so, mostly Meaty Selection but the fish one. Sometimes the Chicken has white spots in it and he won't eat it. If I try another box and it looks OK, then he will eat it. Also had problems with Ham and Salmon. Same flavour from another box and all OK.
Anecdotally, I feel like the problems are only happening with Supermarket bought (Asda/Tesco/Wilkinsons) and not when I buy from Pets at Home, but I can't be 100% sure. I'll start only buying from Pets at Home and see if the problem clears up. People need to know as alot is getting wasted.

I have messaged the manufacturer, will be interesting to see what they say.....

Hi
I have noticed that there is a mixture of blue and silver foil pouches in the 40 pack mixed flavour box. The silver pouches are turned down immediately by our 2 cats. The blue ones are devoured. I had a live chat with Purina on this and was told that during lockdown, they had to get supplies from another factory in Europe and they have a slightly different recipe. I have just opened a box and 2 out of 4 flavours are silver pouches. Essentially going to throw away half a box. When we have changed brands in the past, the cats have been sick after feeding. Any suggestions?

My Buffy didn't like the salmon and tuna flavours in the UK box.

I bought the duck/ lamb mix from zooplus and she eats all four flavours.

My 3 older cats stopped eating Felix a year ago so we changed to hilife it’s natural and haven’t looked back since have noticed a big change in them as well. Lot more active. Coats skin eyes are much improved and I have one cat with ibs she is 14 years old always had issue with runny poo with blood she had been vet checked a lot over the years but since feeding her hilife not had a problem her digestive system seems to be 100% better

We started my one year old kittens on it nearly from the start of having them had to introduce it slowly as they were on Felix from cat rescue the both had the runs on Felix again since changing them i over no more digestive issues.

Just be careful when feeding HiLife, as not all of their range is complete and complimentary foods can cause health issues

Yes, ditto. Mine is the same. Tried Felix and he is adamant, sniffs and refuses to eat.

So moving to Gourmet and other brands.

after years of feeding the cat who lives outside in my garden chicken, Gourmet and Felix AGAIL, and him leaving loads for the slugs and magpies, I find he eats up every scrap of tinned Tesco own brand and Whiskas in jelly - which is saving me a fortune and I am relieved not to have a bin full of unrecyclable pouches, or cut myself on the lids of the Gourment

I have come to the conclusion cats care about texture as well as taste, and the softer texture of the lumps in the cheaper food are easier for him than the tough bits in the AGAIL

Hi guys...

So I googled what's going on with Felix cat food and found this page! I have been wondering as my 4 cats, living in pairs in separate parts of the house, all go off the food at the same time.
I know they don't like the ham/duck flavour at all but I wondered about the quality of the meat 🤔
I do appreciate it's cat food and it's not prime select or anything but I just find it odd they all go off it at the same time.
Plus, they are actually hungry! Like literally begging for food but refuse to eat AGAIL....
I will try switching brands to see if that helps but it seems more something to do with the food than anything else...
2 are neutered males, brothers but from different litters (6months apart) age 6 & 6 1/2 then my girls are 17 & 15 from completely different families.... Again neutered, all indoor cats...

Yes I agree weather can play a part in it but as it's getting colder I would think they would be wanting to eat more. As I said, they are clearly hungry, just refuse to eat.

Did they reply? Only I have the same issues with lots of the Chicken and Beef flavours - they tiny white bits in and my cats just wont eat it!

I bought a box from Morrisons that is a different coloured pouch and my two refuse it, even when mixed half and half with a normal one. It did say improved recipe which worried me

Molly is back on it again and I've noticed it looks a bit grey sometimes.

I was happy to carry on with the Gourmet Gold but the fat content is quite a bit higher.

I'm intrigued to hear that other people are having issues with their cat(s) eating Felix good.
My cat Dev used to love it but lately turns his nose up at it, no matter how hungry he is.
However I have thrown quite a few packets away lately too as I've noticed some weird white slimy content in some of the sachets.
This is quite disgusting and alarming!
Hence I googled it and found this forum.
Will be glad to hear all of your opinions or whether anyone has had the same.

Thank goodness it’s not just me that’s noticed this.!
I’ve always fed my three cats Felix ever since they were kittens. This last couple of months, all three have turned their nose up at all varieties of AGAIL. I’m changing to something else as I’m fed of of scraping it out of their feeding bowls and in to the bin.... what a waste of food and money. Has anyone got any recommendations?
My cats Keith, Trevor & Colin are fed up. 😾😼😼

I know cats are fussy but it seems this is an issue.
Like Ratlegs123's cats, our two, now 9 years old, have grown up on Felix. They have dry food available all the time but have a portion of pouch food three times a day, alternating between as many flavours as possible. Our girl is a fusspot, turning up her nose at her fave food until you've walked round the house with it coaxing her. She rarely pays much attention to the solid matter, she's mostly a jelly/sauce girl. Our boy is such a piggy that his is gone before his sister has even approved hers, and we have to watch over them otherwise he'd have hers too. But this past week he has flatly refused his pouch food twice yet his fussy sister ate hers.
He has never simply refused food ever. It is very unusual, and it worries me a little. I'm going to pay more attention to exactly which pouch he refuses. Lockdown issues with meat suppliers? Change in recipe? Something else?

They both loved Felix tinned food but i cannot get it here any more, and I will not buy Whiskas - before they came along, feeding our previous cat, I found a piece of wood in a can of rabbit meat, presumably its hutch?! Most everything else available is either expensive or of dubious origin.

my outdoor feral prefers Tesco's own pouches more than anything else, especially the gravy ones

I don't think his teeth are in good shape, and he can't cope at all with the solid bits of meat in the more expensive foods, but the reconstituted lumps in the basic food are softer for him

he has one meal of arond 70gms of raw mince to boost his protein intake

I've had issues with standard Felix, I mentioned before Christmas about a small box saying improved recipe that was a different coloured pouch, so I bought a box that didn't, in the hope it was old stock, but that was still the new coloured pouch that they refuse to eat. Fortunately, the large multipack boxes are still the original coloured pouches, but I've stopped buying the small ones in case they are new, which is a shame as I like them to have more than 4 flavours. They have been getting fussy with Felix AGAIL too, but they only have two pouches a week of that, so not too much of an issue, but I'm struggling to find something to mix with normal Felix as they don't like Whiskas and some of the other cheap pouches they used to like, they have gone off

We noticed on Saturday that the Felix AGAIL box and pouch design had changed, and yesterday ended up scraping a pouch and a half into the bin. It may just be a one off and they didn't feel like those flavours, particularly as they could smell the chicken I had been cooking for our tea, so we will have to see how they get on with this mornings breakfast. They had Gourmet Pearl for supper and the bowls were clean this morning so that at least is an option.
I will add that I notice the warmer weather dampens their appetite so that could be part of it, in Winter they can go through 6 pouches or tins a day between the three of them, in Summer it can be down to 3 or 4 pouches or tins.
