Recurring diarrhoea with borderline renal failure

Another cat, another question!
My 14 year old Ragdoll boy has been in very mild borderline CRF for 2 years now and is basically well, except that having a delicate tummy as well he is prone to bouts of the Dire Rear. These are coming more often and lasting longer now. I have been taking him to the vets every time it goes 2-3 days for a vitamin B injection as that seems to be the most effective treatment for him, and get him to drink by offering a little water with tuna which perks him up in the meantime. I will also get some Cobalaplex on vet advice to add to his food. This latest attack (over a weekend of course) is a bad one.
Question is, does anyone have a better remedy than this to hopefully break this pattern and prevent the tummy upsets? Or any experience dealing with a CRF cat whose main issue is this? My only other CRF cat years ago had 8 healthy happy years, I can see this isn't going to be the case this time around. We have just about bankrupted ourselves getting the other cat through radioactive iodine treatment so avoiding avoidable vet visits would be a real help as we're really struggling now. Any advice at all welcome.
