Red sore on kittens neck - advice would be appreciated!

Post by natashap1996_ »

I have had my two kittens for three weeks now. Yesterday I realised that they both have fleas so booked a vet appointment for Friday (two days away). However tonight when I got home I found a sore on one of the kittens neck/shoulder, it is circular in shape, wet looking, hairless and very red/pink (photo attached - sorry if anyone is queezy). It doesn't look like a cut, but more like a layer of skin is just gone. I've never seen anything like it! I naturally looked up the symptoms online and found some articles saying that it could be a reaction to a flea bite (which would make sense because he does have fleas) but I just don't know whether I can wait to show the vet on Friday or whether I should go tomorrow as a matter of urgency.

If anyone has had a similar situation and could shed some light on this, it would be much appreciated!

has he had an injection in that place, by any chance? I had a cat who developed a very similar bare sore spot when immunised

bathe it with salty water if it looks mucky, but otherwise I wouldn't think you need worry before the Friday vet visit, unless he seems to be ill or in pain

Pippin gets something similar from contact with surgical spirit or flea spot on treatments. I used hypercal ointment which helped it to heal, and avoid the things he is allergic to. I would watch it, but I agree that it doesn't look like an emergency.
