Vibes for mum and kitten please
On Wed one of our volunteers went to a multi-cat household to pick up cats for neutering, and one of the cats had given birth overnight and was refusing to have anything to do with the kittens, or eat. One of the kittens died one the way to the vet, mum was still refusing to feed, so the vets gave the remaining two a feed etc. Picked them up after work and did a few feeds Wed eve, the little boy wasn't looking good after the last feed, and when I Got up 3 hours later, he had died. Mum (who's been named Beau) has been reluctantly accepting the the little girl ever since, but isn't great, she needs lots of reassurance to relax enough to get in a position for the kitten to feed, and she doesn't have a lot of milk. I suspect the kittens were prem, as when she was weighed at 2 days old, she weighed 75g (normal newborn weight 97-115). Mum is also very young.
I weighed her tonight and she has dropped a little, so made up some milk and gave her a feed, will do the same in the morning. Kitten is a fighter though, and very determined - she hates me taking her away from mum and has a good set of lungs on her!! She's fine when she realises its for food, but for checking in case she needs toileting, just screams at me. Mum is at least showing an interest when she screams, which she wasn't on Wed.

Poor, poor kitties.
What an unnecessary waste.
Sounds a bit more promising that mum is taking an interest in remaining kitten.
Positive vibes for them both.
Well done to everyone for trying to help the cats from their former 'home'

Good luck with mum & the remaining kitten Desley. Poor babies - no point repeating how much hatred I have for people that won't do the right thing for animals.

Thanks guys. Kitten is a feisty, determined little thing which you would expect being a tortie!, I think she is starting to fill out a bit. It is funny watching her knead mum though

Heartwarming that the kitten seems at the moment to be winning the battle, fingers crossed that the progress may continue but heartbreaking and sickening that this kind of thing is happening all too often.

Been thinking about these kitties a lot. Let's hope the little one has made it through the first week

Sorry for the lack of response, it's not been a good week. Sadly we lost Elysia on Wed afternoon, she was 1 week old, but still not the weight of a new born kitten, despite us doing top up feeds. She was a character though, despite her size, she was very active, and actually got out of the cage on the day we lost her. She is now buried with her brother, RIP little one. Mum isn't missing her, but does keep sleeping in the litter tray. She will be neutered on Thu, and looking for a new home.

So sorry she lost her battle. What an unnecessary waste of lives
Thanks for everything you have done for these kitties. Onwards and upwards for mum.
