My cat, Heston, has recently had a really difficult time. He was diagnosed with a blocked bladder, treated at the vets for 2 nights, then came home on cystophan, buprenorphine and hypovase. But he was still squatting to wee all over the house, producing tiny amounts of red, stinky wee. He was then diagnosed with a UTI, for which he was treated with antibiotics (tablets then later an injection). His wee got less offensive but otherwise he was no better, so he had another trip to the vets for an ultrasound, catheter to test flow, and urinalysis. All his test results came back negative, but there was a lot of blood still in his bladder and inflamed wall of bladder.
Since that last admission (8 days ago), he is no longer squatting to wee around the house, and is making it to his litter tray but only passing small amounts. However, we have a new symptom that i can't find any advice about: he is being incontinent of urine! This often happens at night (on my bed!!) but i have seen him do it during the day, and it happens when he is licking his penis- he licks it, then the wee just squirts out and he empties his bladder (normally a good sized amount!). I am pretty sure he has no control over it. It happens about twice at night and once or twice during the day. Tip of the penis looks red, so I think it is irritated. I also think he is in discomfort sometimes although this is more 'mother's instinct' as there is nothing specific i can put my finger on.
Background info: he is a rescue, been in the family 3 years. Fits the classic profile for cystitis: 5 yr old, male, overweight, indoor cat, quite anxious.
He is an only cat in a quiet household, I've changed him to the specialist diet urinary wet food, I've bought him a pet remedy diffuser and feliway spray, and basically done everything the vet has suggested. Still using cystophan and loxicom. I've shampooed the carpet and cleaned up so it doesn't smell of wee!
Sorry for the long post, but does anyone have any ideas about his incontinence?? Vet has been grear but seems a bit stumped, and suggested waiting to see if it settles. But I'm so worried, and sad for him as he hates making messes.
