Cat pees on couch after urinary blockage procedure

Post by taoster »

My cat had unrinary blockage and the vet cleared him up with a catheter. No surgery needed. My cat started to pee on a leather couch which he has never done before. And he only does it when i'm home and while i'm sitting on the ground next to the couch. My cat used to be an indoor/outdoor cat, but I am not letting him out so i can closely monitor his litterbox. I'd like to hear some ideas and opinions on what you may think it can be. Especially from those with similiar experiences. Thanks!

It's quite common for cats to associate a litter tray with pain and avoid it, but his choice of alternative and the fact he does it when you're there sounds like a protest for being kept indoors to me!

Sometimes cats will pee in unusual places as a sign of stress. We have three Burmese and the middle one is shocking at doing this. He seems to simply be an anxious cat, but he only started doing it after we got our last kitten. In your case, you might just have to wait it out a bit longer and see if things settle down once he's fully recovered.
