Feline herpesvirus?

Post by birmanmom »

Wondering how common is feline herpesvirus is in kittens? My Birman kitten (now 8 months old) always has dried discharge in the corner of her eyes and sometimes slightly on her bottom edge of her eye and my vet said that it is most likely feline herpesvirus. I was told that this is common in catteries. I'm considering getting another kitten from some place but want to make sure that I have all the correct info first. Thank you for help.

My boy was a retired Ragdoll stud, as I understand it it's very common in breeding circles and often shows up in young kittens.

Mine would sometimes cough and had runny eyes and occasionally the sneezes. We had him checked out many times over the years and all vets ever said was his upper and lower respiratory tract was clear so as long as he didn't get worse they really didn't seem to care. It was only when we moved vets she explained he probably had a latent herpes infection that would surface at times of stress or bacterial infection.
