Hyperthyroidism, Vitalda and side effects

Post by Toppers »

Good evening everyone
My 13 year old girl was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. She’s been on Vitalda for 2 months and doing ok. No sickness or tummy issues thank goodness. However we have noticed she’s become very distant from us now. She hardly comes in the house, will actively keep away from us if we try to go near her and will only eat if we put her dish outside.

She was always a lap cat, so lovely and affectionate. I really miss her being around and wondered if anyone else has experienced this? Will it settle as her body gets used to the medication?

She’s due a review with the vet in a few weeks so I will mention it, but wondered if it’s something normal? My kids are devastated as she used to sleep with them and now won’t go near them 😢

Hyper-t can cause changes in temperament but as she has been on meds for 2 months, I'd get her checked by the vet in case it is something else
