Hyperthyroidism and hard breathing

Post by Anduril »

Our 15-year old cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism two days ago, after a vet visit for labored breathing and a three-day hospitalization for fluid in her chest cavity. Since being home, her breathing still hasn’t normalized. She was prescribed lasix to help with the fluid, enalipril for blood pressure, and methimazole for her thyroid. We’ve read the side effects for each and we’re positive her tiredness is a result of the meds. With that being said, should she still be breathing as hard as she is? Could it be a side effect of the medication combo? Does her body just need to adjust? Has anyone had a similar experience, post-diagnosis?
