Sore Wont Heal

One of our cats has a raw patch about the size of a thumbnail on his back that wont heal for about a month now.
We keep it clean and it's not spreading but it reachable with his claws and he scratches at it.
Getting to the vet is a major drama in my part of the world but we have access to most prescription drugs and I thought to try 0.02% Triamcinolone Acetonide cream for a while before taking that step.
A Google reveals that it wont be harmful.
I have a prescribed drug for cat acne that's worked for that problem on the other cats but no luck with this.
