Sick cat, bad vet

Post by ScamperCat »

Hi everyone,

I have an older aunt I often visit and help with chores and what not. Last year around this time I helped her take her cat who is 13 to the vet and they mentioned how she seems to be losing weight and they they would like a stool and urine sample. They did not find anything that time around and we left it at that. Well over the summer while visiting I noticed the cat looked really bad and asked if I could take her to the vet and have her looked at, my aunt let me do so and once again they took a urine test, ran some blood work, but still couldn't find anything wrong but they did give her subcutaneous fluids because she wad dehydrated. They suggested an ultrasound to look and see if there was anything wrong, but we really don't have the money for that kind of test so we hoped that the cat would get better on the fluids. And she seemed to until lately. When I visited recently I noticed that she was much skinnier and was walking with a hunch. She was having trouble jumping onto things. My aunt says she is eating but only seems to take small bites of her dry food and licks the gravy in her wet food, maybe taking a bite out of that but not as much as she should. My aunt mentioned too that she jumped into the bathtub and started drinking out of the leaky faucet and then peed and she saw blood in the urine. She also mentioned that she sometimes finds cat poop in places where the litter box isn't even nearby. I want to take her in again to get tested but I don't know if my aunt has a competent vet or not. Does anyone know what might be causing her sudden decline, I know there's probably a number of things but I'm starting to wonder if it would be better to put her down or find a better vet who will prescribe medicine to help her.

Only a good vet could know what is wrong with the little cat. You could certainly try getting a second opinion. It seems like the best idea. Hope it goes well for you, your aunt, and the cat :)

With the symptoms you’ve mentioned a lot of things come to mind, there’s a lot that can be wrong with your aunt’s cat, the best you can do right now is to take her to a better vet. There are few websites that curate a list of best vets around according to your location like GreatVet.You might wanna check that for starters and see if you can find a vet in your area with a facility to perform any kind of test. Hope she gets well soon, meanwhile, you might wanna keep your cat hydrated by feeding her some electrolytes (don’t forget to consult a vet first).
P.S. - I think the link to GreatVet site is www.greatvet.com. You can google to find it.
