Cat won’t pee in tray

Post by WelshWife »

My cat is 6 and this issue has always been a problem.
He will poop in his tray, but will not pee in it. He could be out for 12 hours as will come in and urinate on a door, or our bed or anything really!
He’s been to the vets and no medical issue.
Multiple litter trays in the house. Feliways plugged in in case it’s stress.
I’m at my wits end with this.
Any advice welcome.

You've had this cat since he was a kitten, and he has always done this?

Is he neutered?

What have you tried so far? And what do you use to clean up?

Yep, had him since 4 months. Will go a while not doing it, but always starts again, doesn’t seem to be any trigger.
He doesn’t go the same place every time, it varies.

Yes he’s neutered.

We use special cleaning stuff specifically meant to deter this behavior

Ok that takes care of the most obvious ideas.

4 months, what's his background, did he come straight from his birth home, what's his story?

Have you tried different litters, different types of trays and putting the trays in different places?

Is he declawed?

He was found as a stray.

Tried all different types of litter.

Not declawed ( not done in uk )

I'm in UK too it was your spelling behavior that made me wonder if you were in the States.

Other than it now being an ingrained habit I can't think of anything else if he has been doing it basically all his life. Can't imagine it being the same stress that's been going on for 6 years!

My spelling behavior? :D

I have to keep trying as I am in new rented property and will have to rehome him otherwise

Am going to try some urinary stress supplements from tomorrow also
