Liver problems in a Ragdoll

Post by DonnaK »

I am getting increasingly anxious about my 11 1/2 year old Ragdoll. His appetite is diminished for the past week or so. The vet did blood work and an X-ray. Blood work showed elevated bilirubin and other liver enzymes. He was given a steroid injection and antibiotics and given a special food and I was told to bring him back in 4-6 weeks.
He is still relatively active and is drinking water, but only licks the “gravy” off the canned food and then walks away. No easily visible sign of jaundice, but I am so worried that I can’t sleep. He is my beloved friend and companion and has helped keep me somewhat sane during coronavirus. I have given him high quality treats which he initially ate readily and now is leaving them alone.
How can I get him to eat? The idea of force-feeding him with a syringe is overwhelming. Getting the antibiotics in him is a struggle as it is.
Seeking any advice available. Thank you in advance
