help fiv has ear infection

Hi
i have an fiv cat, unfortunately back in march he disappeared for 2 weeks, he finally came home however with a really really bad ear infection to the point where the inflammation effected the use of his eye, 2 months on and he still has the ear infection of which he is struggling to fight and the eye is still effects. Hes been on steroids and antibiotics for a while of which the vet has now told me to stop using for a couple of weeks to prevent organ damage, he is therefore just on canaural ear drops at the moment and drops for his eye to keep it moist. Anyone else had the same problem??
