Aggression. Spooked

My buddy (Loki) is 2 years old. Had since he was a kitten. Never had a problem with him until 5 days ago.

Basic background:

Indoor cat, no other pets in home, no kid's. Just me n him. BATHROOM n eating habits ok.

He was sitting on TV stand looking outside the window. Something spooked him real bad, like he jumped off the stand fast. I raised my voice because my TV almost fell over.

I walked over to him to let him and calm him down. He was hissing, growling, and very scared n defensive mode. I just talked nice and left him alone.

He calmed down the next day. Petting, sleeping with me,etc.

4 days later, TODAY, I was walking by him where he sits on top of my recliner.

He lashed out at me, scratching me,started hissing again. Then went in bedroom, layed down.

I just left alone.

Any help????????

Hi and welcome :)

Your post might get more views in the 'Health and Behaviour' section - if you ask a mod/admin person they'll move it for you.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience; cats can be affected by this sort of thing and in your case it was sheer bad luck; I'd have done the same, yelled out in those circumstances, it's human nature, but coupled with whatever upset him outside, Loki is clearly feeling very ruffled.

He'll get over it. If he responds like this again, just do what you're doing, give him space. Speak gently to him. Feed him his favourite foods, perhaps by hand if he has a liking for bits of steak or chicken (I'd draw the line at tuna lol.)

It's a bit like settling him in to a new home all over again, but you'll get there. Time is the remedy.

Hopefully other people will be along with more advice but hope this helps for now - all the best and please let us know how you go on with him :)

Sounds like a chain of events that has link you to whatever it was outside that frightened him. Some cats can be like that. If I treat Willow for fleas she won't let me anywhere near her for ages after.

I think Lilith has the answer. Give him some space and time and perhaps try not to 'sneak up' on him.

Bribery works well with Willow, that and approaching her with my hands in view 'look, no drops'! :D

Hope things return to normal vert soon. Did you find out what frightened him? It could be something quite silly (to you)

Thanks for the replies. Sorry I was in the wrong section. Yes, mods please move this.

Anyways, I just keep giving him space. He has gotten better since that that window ordeal.

Only thing I can think of, is maybe a bug hit the screen real fast, right by his face, startled him, then of course falling back. Chain reaction.

I'll keep an eye on him, will reply in a few days. If he doesn't have me all scratched up. Lol

When he was 4 months old, we had our short time with fleas. Whew. I'm glad that done. Now I just apply Diamatacious Earth ( food grade), around the apartment. Very lightly. No fleas in almost 2 years.

Is he still spooked? It could be a smell? I picked up my kitten and stroked him and he scratched me and bolted out of my arms. Then I realised that I had, just a few minutes ago, peeled an orange!! Poor thing! Cats hate citrus smells!!

So far he about %99 over it. About 2x this week he got a little angry and starting the hissing. I was walking around the apartment getting alot of work done fast. I guess he just got agitated. I'm still keeping an eye on him though.
