Short term foster needed

Post by Wolfette74 » Mon Mar 02, 2020 9:51 am

Good morning everyone,

My name is Ellen. I have a beautiful ginger and white Tom. Neutered and chipped. He is a house cat and has never been outside.

We rescued him from a miserable life being left to.fend for himself in a garden next to a friends home. He has a broken, set tail and has tested positive for feline HIV.

We are licence holders and are currently looking for a new pub to run in the midlands area. We leaveour current site on 9th April.

I am therefore desperately seeking help! He is my partners cat and we love him dearly. We don't wish to have him rehomed. Because of his health status he cannot be vaccinated as this could kill him. I am seeking a temporary foster for our beloved cookie whilst we find our next pub.

He is full of character and very cheeky. Loves fuss, food and launching his toys all over the flat.

Can anyone on here help us??

Best wishes Ellen, Wayne & Cookie

Hi Ellen,

I'm sure you've already considered this but is there anyone you know and trust, such as friends, relatives or colleagues, who might be willing to provide a safe, temporary home for Cookie? If so, there's some advice that might help you to assess the suitability of prospective short-term care in the Rehoming Privately to Friends, Family or Colleagues section of Cat Chat's rehoming advice page: https://www.catchat.org/index.php/rehom ... t#rehoming
There's also lots of useful information on caring for FIV cats here: https://www.catchat.org/index.php/fiv

Another solution might be to try and find a boarding cattery for Cookie. Many boarding catteries will only accept cats with an up-to-date vaccination certificate, but it might be worth contacting your nearest catteries to explain the situation and see whether they could offer any advice. You can find information on boarding catteries, along with a link to a list of Licensed Catteries & Pet Boarding Services, here: https://www.catchat.org/index.php/choos ... ng-cattery

You could also contact rescues in your area to enquire about temporary cat care. You can find a list of cat rescue and rehoming centres here: https://www.catchat.org/index.php/cat-r ... uk-ireland
If you want a list of organisations in your area who we know to be FIV-Friendly, please email Cat Chat's Help Desk on: cat.advice (at) catchat.org

There is an organisation called People & Pets Advocates (PAPAS) who can sometimes arrange short-term foster care, although it may depend on whether they have foster carers in your area. You can find out more on their website: http://www.papas.org.uk

As mentioned above, you could also email Cat Chat's Help Desk for further advice on temporary care: cat.advice (at) catchat.org

I hope that helps.

Are you still looking because I can take him, if you can deliver him to me.

My FIV cat passed away in March and I miss the company of a cat but I'm not quite ready to take on a new one. I have all the cat stuff, like a tree, scratch post, litter trays. He will have to stay indoors with me in my one bedroom flat. I have no garden but he can enjoy the sun from the window sill.
