WILL THEY EVER BE FRIENDS

Post by jillyvillyvoo »

Hi to all. Some of you may have read my other posts if not I will fill you in. A wee black cat turned up in our garden and we fed him a few times but he didn't leave so we took him in and had him vet checked, he is fiv +. He had a few bad habits, namely using my bed instead of litter box but thankfully problem resolved!
We wer holding on to him as till he got a place with CP adoption centre who would rehomed him. A place is there now for him but we (me) never got round to parting with him. He is still here and I think we are keeping him. Problem is he is not very friendly to my adorable friendly 13 year old cat Sonny. Nothing like fighting or anything but the new cat (Pepsi ) just growls at sonny who then promptly removes himself from the room in a huff. We love Sonny with all our hearts and in April his sister was pts also age 13 so I don't want him feeling bad. It's only been a week and a half but will they bond do you think?

Aww, could tell you were getting attached to him :D

YES. It may take a bit of time but they will settle together. Sounds like they're halfway there already - don't worry about a few growls, that's just laddish bravado. Reassure Sonny that he's still top cat - but I'm sure you're doing that anyway.

Congrats and good on yer for taking this boy in :D

they may never be best friends, but I would expect them to rub along together without conflict in time

Pepsi will have had to fend for himself, and compete with other strays, for goodness knows how long, and will have learnt to see another cat as competition for limited resources - but that should wear off as he learns that his luck has changed, and that his security is assured without having to fight for it

Our two boys have an age difference of about 10 years. Tommy is very laid back, Bobby is a bumptious 2 year old. Tom was a little startled by Bob when they first met but now they are THE best of friends and even eat alongside each other.

I'm sure your two boys will accept each other and get along fine. Just give it time and let Sonny know he is still Top Cat, whatever Pepsi thinks (feed Sonny first, that sort of thing)

Thanks everyone for the replies, feeling relieved. Both boys spent a few hours together in our living room last night, albeit at opposite ends, just staring at each other. Neither were fussed by each others company. Pepsi seems to have his paws firmly set now and has been racing up and down the stairs, much to the amusement of our kids (and the dismay of sonny :( who has spine problems the last few years so can't get up and down so quick..Wee terror also likes to bite my feet and hands, just in play but takes a bit of getting used too! Still I feel a lot of progress in a short space of time but I still feel guilty sharing my affection. Sonny is a very spoiled boy, always has been and always will be....tunnels under my duvet last thing at night and first thing in the morning and curls up with me, i know, all my fault. Fingers crossed all will work out .Just wish I could work out how to post some pictures to share with you guys. Will keep you posted though on their relationship.
thanks

I brought home manys cats...there are always one that don't like it more than the rest. Time will be the factor. And it's up to them. Just be reassuring to the older one, while give a boost of love to the scared little one.
