Hello
I am inquiring: Has anyone tried doing Animal Search Services? AnimalSearch.co.uk offers a service to help you find your cat/dog/whatever. They claim an 80% success rate. But it is quite costly. I just wondered if anyone had tried such a service and if so, did they have any success finding their kitty... Pugsley has been missing for 4 days, going on 5th days... and I'm a definitely worried mama now! I have put up posters and I have had one call which didn't really lead to anything (yet...)
My husband doesn't think we need to look into the service, and he thinks it's expensive. But we have done some of the work that they would be doing anyways (I think)
Just curious if anyone had experience.

Re: Animal Search Services
Oh I am so sorry your cat is missing - hopefully you do have some news soon. Is he (assuming he's a he) micro-chipped and neutered? Where do you live?
What have you done so far to try and find him? There are quite a few tips to try as well in the lost cat section of this forum; have you seen those?
If you have pet insurance, contact them as they often cover some (if not all) of the cost of the animal search companies so depending on how much you have done / are able to do I do think they are worth contacting.

Re: Animal Search Services
I have made posters and have posted them up around my Village. I live in England, Hampshire, near southampton. More in the country. He is microchipped and he's neutered. He's about 9 months old (in about a week!) I don't have pet insurance, but I have alerted my vet, the Cats Protection (southampton and Winchester offices) I have notified my village council and they have put up my notices on Facebook and twitter. I haev also posted his missing status with a couple of other lost pet sites.
My husband doesn't think it's worth contacting them now. I do go out in the morning and when i get home from work around our property and up and down a little ways on our road, checking for him. (usually looking for squished kitty along the road).
So far I have had one call about a possible sighting, but nothing really came of it last night. I have posted about him in the lost cat forum.

When one of ours went missing, one of the most useful websites was a Facebook page for our local area which specialised in lost and found cats. I'm too old for all this Facebook stuff, but I have to admit it was very good. Have a look and see if a facebook page with a name like
" TownName lost and found cats " exists. I honestly dont see what a paid animal search service can do in addition to all the usual stuff.
Wishing you success in tracking down your wandering kitty.
Barry.

Re: Animal Search Services
The village Council has posted my poster on their facebook page and twitter. A neighbour is a dog groomer in the area, she put up my poster in her van and on her facebook. Thank you for the suggestion. I think most the local village resources for social media have been address. I went door to door again this weekend, along the back road and the second pub in the village has put up a poster. I haven't covered all the back road, as it's very long and I didn't have much daylight yesterday.
But people are keeping an eye out for him! I did see A black kitty but it was a semi-feral female who lives on one of the farm. I did have a sense of hope for a moment that it was him!

I do know people that have used Animal Search and been happy with their service, but they will, essentially, be doing much the same as you. Just in case you've not seen it, this is the Cat Chat advice page on lost cats:

Good luck - I really hope you find Pugsley, and soon. xx
