Problems logging on?
I was just talking to my sister and she said she was having problems logging on to CC. I had problems last week and had to request a new password before resetting the old one.
Anyone else having problems?

Re: Problems logging on?
I had problems last week, just after we had had to have a new Virgin Superhub as the last one died. I put in the name and password and it seemed to accept it but then said I wasn't logged in if I tried to reply to anything. The oddest thing was it was showing me as online in the list at the bottom of the forum page. I thought it was to do with the change of hub and in the end closed to the tab and did a google search to get it back. Since then it seems to be working.
Re: Problems logging on?
Hi, I actually had the same problems as Ruth B last week, but things seem to be ok for me now. Is your sister still having problems logging in bobby’s girl? if so I will make some enquiries.

Re: Problems logging on?
It seems to be working fine for me now, I had just assumed it was a problem my end with the new hub.

Re: Problems logging on?
She said she would try again, but as I see no posts as yet, perhaps she is still having problems?
She was having the same problem as me. I am normally permanently logged in/on (whatever!) but last week I was asked to log in and then couldn't get off the log in page. I had to reset my password to get back on.

Indeed ..... but nothing to do with the forum!
Most recently it was that I'd sworn off forums until I'd done my tax return!

Re: Problems logging on?
Every time I've gone to this site this week I've had to log on despite clicking "remember me"
Not a big issue but just wanted to let you know in case that's a symptom of the problem.

That's happened to me a couple of times recently. Though it was because I was using my kindle not laptop (a law unto itself!).

Re: Problems logging on?
I've no problem logging in, but I used to stay logged in and I can't find that option any more. I'm not sure if that's because the website has removed that option, or that I'm having an all too frequent 'Senior moment' and just can't find it.

Re: Problems logging on?
Alice, it should still be there. Depending on what your screen looks like you'll either have this option all in one line. And to the right of the words "remember me" should be a little box that you need to tick
Username: Password: I forgot my password | Remember me Login
Alternatively the login screen will have everything one underneath the other, and again a little box next to the words remember me.
Username:
Password:
I forgot my password
Remember me
Login
Oddly enough my computer doesn't seem to remember me either, but I'm not sure if that's because I'm logging at work and then at home?

Re: Problems logging on?
Thanks Ria
I've ticked the 'remember me' box several times, in case it worked, though I was really under the impression that it was an offer to help recall one's password, and user name after typing the first letter, rather than to stay logged in.
At one time the option marked 'Stay logged in' was amongst the preferences in the user control panel and for a few years I never needed to log in again, which obviously makes it easier to dip in and out, and quickly spot any new posts. That's what I've been looking for, and wondering if it's no longer available, or if I'm just being dumb and not looking in the right place (a distinct possibility!).

Re: Problems logging on?
Several times over the last week (including a few minutes ago) I have had to lo in, despite clicking 'remember me' or whatever it says. I wondered if it was me, but since it has happened about 6 times...

Re: Problems logging on?
Hello all,
Sorry to hear about these problems. We haven't changed anything with the forum itself lately, so we need to investigate other things. If anyone is able to answer the questions below, it would be very helpful.....
(1) Once you are logged in, are you being 'logged out' whilst on the same session, or are you just finding that you need to re-log in when you come back to the forum after say, a couple of hours or days?
(2) Could those having problems please let me know what browser you are using, and what version, (in case it's a browser-specific issue)
Thank you!!!

Re: Problems logging on?
I usually use Chrome Version 56.0.2924.87 on my work computer.
will check to see what the laptop at home is; but again I used Chrome there.
I also can access via Internet Explorer at work and that’s version 11.0.9600.18537 / Update verions: 11.0.38 Will use that for a bit instead of Chrome and see what happens
So far it seems to mainly be a problem when not active on the site for a bit

Re: Problems logging on?
I've not been frozen out while I am logged on and everything seems to have settled down now (touch wood).
I use firefox on the laptop and I think the kindle is silk? Judy has a kindle too. She has been emailing me on their main 'pooter.
I had the problem on the kindle and fixed it there, so don't know if firefox was affected. Hope this helps - all Greek to me!

Re: Problems logging on?
Hello!
OK - result! we have found out what was causing the issue of not staying logged in after having clicked “Remember Me”. This is now resolved!
If you are one of the people having this issue, if you are logged in currently - please log out and then log back in again - this time if you click “Remember Me” it should remember you. Here’s why (if you are interested!)…
The “Remember Me” feature of the board relies on your browser storing information on what’s called a “cookie” (no, you can’t eat it, sorry!) which it downloads from the forum. When we switched the board to use secure “https” pages a few days ago, any browsers which had the Cat Chat forum “cookie” in it’s memory from before the switch, would have a problem with the Remember Me feature. So…
To resolve this, our forum now has a different “Cookie”, so if you log out and log in again, your browser will then get the NEW cookie (no, you still can’t eat it!). If you tick the “Remember Me” box this time, it will store that information on the new cookie, and therefore you should not have the problem of logging in each time.
If you still find you have the problem, you may need to clear your browser’s “cache” memory (to clear off the old cookie), but as far as we understand it, just logging out and in again should do the trick.
Thanks for your patience & have a lovely weekend!

Re: Problems logging on?
Judy and lilynmitz were both having different problems, unrelated to the cookies, these were related to resetting their password. I went through a few things with them and we have managed to sort that out too so fingers crossed everyone is sorted nowbobbys girl wrote:Didn't want to but-in on another thread but I see that lilynmitz is having problems logging on. Re: Problems logging on?
Things have certainly been better for me for the last few days. I've stayed logged in, which has been much better than finding that I'd to log in on every visit.
The gremlins have been exterminated - permanently I hope!
Thanks to whoever came to the rescue.

Re: Problems logging on?
This should all be sorted as of 12.25 pm on Sat 11th (when we installed the new "cookie") so anyone still finding they need to login again should only have to do it the once after that time. Logging in after 12.25pm yesterday will mean your browser has the new cookie.
From experience though, some browsers are more "stubborn" than others, and tend to hang on to old information, so if the problem persists, it would be a good idea to clear your browser's cache memory (bearing in mind that will clear cookies and saved information from any other sites that you visit using that browser too).
hope that helps!!
happy Sunday!
