Poor thing and thanks for caring. The ideal thing would be take it to a vets to check for a chip to trace the owners. I haven’t got a clue how you would get to it unfortunately, so I would probably ask the railway about that, someone should be able to get it out I would think but as I say, not sure who you’d need to ask, the railway may be able to help or advise.

I'd inform the RSPCA to see if an officer could come down and catch it. Other than that try to get close enough to give it some food or if you can photograph it and the area its in it might ring a bell with someone.

I'm so sorry, I've just read that again, I've just put moisturizer on my face and my eyes are a bit bleary! I'd still call the RSPCA they tend to have more authority to get on to land than we do.

It's nice of you to care about finding the owners. As Janey suggested, contact the railway. They're supposed to scan dead animals for microchips, although there are reports of them not doing that so perhaps you could request it when you speak with them.

Others may know this, but I didn't: Some railway lines are electrified, and people/dogs/cats can be killed just by touching it. A dog was recently killed near here. :(

Whatever you do, do not go onto the railway line or railway land. Railways are very dangerous places, you could easily get killed or very badly hurt. You need to contact Network Rail. The Helpline number is 03457 11 41 41.
