Are they saying they don't have any kittens or are they rejecting you for some reason as a potential home?

The only ones close enough don't have any kittens left and refresh in a while.

If there aren't any kittens available in your area, you wouldn't have to go far to find some I'm sure. While you no doubt have your reasons for preferring to adopt a kitten, adopting an older cat who might otherwise never find a forever home can be very rewarding and perhaps worth considering. Check out the rescue sites and read their stories. I've adopted both kittens and older cats - two of my girls had been in the local rescue for 3+ years and weren't really rehomable due to being so timid, and I feel feel very fortunate that I was considered a suitable mum for them and that they have both done so well.
