help me save my Caz

My home life may change. My Mom has Alzhiemers and I must take care of her.
My Caz's days are numbered.
He doesn't use a litterbox. That is not ok for anyone else but me. I love him more than my home.
He is the only one of the three kittens I took in seven years ago that does this trick.
I tryed changing the type of litter I use in his box. He goes in the hallway. I put a litter pan with carpet, newspaper, just plain in the hallway. He just moves his business.
How do I work with his mind? Or he will have to be put down.
His mom was a ferel barn cat and did not train her babies about the litter pans. Lucky and Mittens go fine. Caz ignores the request.
My mind is blank about ideas. I am hoping you guys can come up with things I could try.
The rest of the cats use a clumping litter and are fine with that.

Poor Caz - he's lovely. Wish I could help, but I've not had much experience with litter box problems. Have you tried putting earth in the box? Maybe he would prefer that as he was raised outdoors?

what is he actually going on then? wooden floor, carpet, vinyl flooring?

have you tried laying down puppy pads or newspaper direct on the floor? what about sand in a plastic crate, with part of a side cut down to allow easy access? most cats love digging in sand, as many a builder has discovered

I cannot believe that being put to sleep is an alternative. How horrible. Let him go to a home that will persevere with him and who have the time and patience. Poor little fella. :|

Caz is going on carpet in the hallway. Two spots are his favs.
I don't think anyone could get Caz litter trained so it would be more unfair to him to be put in the system. I love him enough not to want him to suffer.
Dont worry I am not giving up on him quite yet.
I am going to try a shallow tray with compost in it. Go back to his roots.
