First foster cat homed!

I am thrilled to report that a lovely lady came to see my foster cat Coco today, and took her home with her. She will be an only cat and spoiled rotten, I'm sure.

Not only am I thrilled for Coco, being a black moggy of 7-8 years I was worried that she'd be with me for ages, but I've proved to myself (and everyone else) that I am actually capable of handing them over! I've had three 'failed' foster cats, though to be fair they were all difficult circumstances and I knew they were likely to be permanent fosters from the start, so I've had a real sense of triumph today. I just had to keep telling myself that Coco would be much happier as an only companion cat than she would be having to fit in with my gang, and that in the long term I can help more homeless cats as a 'proper' fosterer. :)

I did feel as though I'd betrayed her, though, as I shoved her into the carrier and saw her little face peering out at me as I handed her over. Hopefully I'll get used to that.

Roll on the next one! :D

Well done Helen

As you said, in the long run it's best for her to be a single companion cat, and you can take another faster cat who needs you

Xx

Well done Helen :)

It must be so tough. I don't know if it is any easier knowing from the start that they are fosters, but as you say, it is the only way to make room for the next needy one, without becoming a collector! :)

Hopefully Coco's new mum will send you a couple of photos when she is settled, and any misgivings will vanish :)

I remember the day I handed Jenny over to go to a 'proper fosterer' (yes, I am still bitter about that :) ) I felt terrible, but she settled there and again at her final destination - where no doubt she is doted on and doesn't have a Kylie 'giving her evils' :)

Congratulations, you are lucky she found a home so quickly. I always feel happy when they are going in the carrier, as that is the start of their new home, and the whole reason for us doing it. Good luck with the next one.

Thanks everyone. I do think it helped that I knew from the start that she wasn't staying, and it certainly helped that she was in the outdoor pen. She had her comforts and was fine, but I did feel a bit sorry for her out there sometimes so there's no doubt she's better off in a proper home. My OH is a bit sad but mainly pleased for her too - I caught him in her pen 'having a moment' and saying goodbye just before the lady came to see her.

I'll try to look at the putting-them-in-the-carrier moment as their new beginning. It was the hardest bit.

I remember the lovely Jenny, I'm glad it worked out for her. So's Kylie, I'm sure! :)

Fabulous, well done Helen! One happy little girl rehomed and you have the satisfaction of knowing you played a vital role in that. I hope one day we can do the same.
