Important anniversary - Daz has been weeing for a year!

Post by Crewella »

I don't want to tempt fate, but I just answered a post on a cat with urinary problems and realised that it's been just over a year since Daz had his last blockage. Some will remember the ghastly year we had with Daz's numerous blockages going into double figures and I thought I was going to lose him on several occasions - he still gets Cystophan and added water to his diet, and will do for the forseeable as I really, really don't want him to go through that again if I can help it.

I gave him an extra big cuddle this morning - this time last year I couldn't imagine him being as well as he is. Touch wood ......

Oh dear boy. Well done, darling. Keep weeing nicely.

Because of what I learned from you and Daz, Helen, I have been vigilant with Edgar since he arrived, trying to keep his weight down, watching his fluid intake and giving him urinary care treats and biscuits with cranberry in. Thank you for the help you inadvertently were giving!

Thanks guys! :D

If what we went through has helped anyone, then that's wonderful.

However, Daz looked a bit put out when I told him that you were trying to keep Edgar's weight down, Sarah. He sends his sympathies to Edgar. ;)

Well done Helen and Daz. I remember how worried you were and what you were going through at the time. As Sarah says, your experience helped many of us on here and taught us a lot about the potential dangers of cystitis.

One thing I remember from your posts was your frustration (after all your efforts to control what he was eating) when you caught sight of him escaping with a sausage in his mouth from a neighbour's barbecue. That always makes me smile when I think of it. Please give him a big cuddle from me xx

That has made me laugh, Carol! The ex stray boys never get over this need to scavenge, I think. Edgar has torn open a packet of chicken and climbed into shopping bags in search of the next meal!

I remember that well - in spite of my frustration, I had a good giggle over it too!

You're right, Sarah - they never lose those skills and Peaches was just as bad (oh how I miss her). I have also caught Daz and Peaches in the process of hauling an entire chicken carcass out of the stock pot, and they once ripped open the packaging and nicked all the pepperoni off our pizza! I did wise up though, the kitchen is now like Fort Knox! :D

We used to have a lovely Lurcher, Katie, an amazingly smart dog. It was said you could always tell the owner of a Lurcher - they had a lock on the fridge door  Never heard it said about cats before!
