Halfords and Prestone now using Bitrex in Antifreeze

Post by MarkB »

And screen wash :)

A milestone - let's hope others follow as the useless government didn't bother making it mandatory!

I noticed on the link that Bayer have started adding it to slug pellets. I wonder if it would prevent birds, as well as cats and dogs ingesting it? http://www.bitrex.com/consumers/product ... ail-killer" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Although great news, these links only mention protecting children.

I wonderd if birds had taste buds and they do but only about 60. Aparently some people put cayenne pepper in birdseed to discourage squirrels which the birds eat with no proplem, thats the seeds not the squirrels.
Heres a link to a great article on birds taste and smell.

Thanks for that. It sounds unlikely birds could taste it. I doubt if I could kill slugs anyway :)

This is fab news, even if it's not for the sake of animals. I do worry about the possibility of my cats finding some antifreeze, especially as winter approaches.
