Say hello to Magic!

Post by Crewella »

This little scrap of feline gorgeousness is Magic, and they think she's about 6 weeks old. She was found collapsed by the side of the road last week and handed in to the vets - no sign of mum or litter mates, sadly, and how she got there is a complete mystery. The nurses called her Magic as they were amazed she survived, and as of last night she's staying in a pen in my bedroom until a more suitable lodging can be found for her. She's still quite subdued and has a bit of a runny tum, but is eating well, uses her litter tray like a good girl, loves her heat pad and purrs like a train. Bless her, it's a long time since I had kittens in the house, and she's very, very sweet - she has a pointy little face and looks like a mini version of my Merrick!

Oh what an adorable little scrap! Sounds like Magic has found herself in the right place to be loved and nurtured. I wonder what happened to her - perhaps dumped with litter mates and managed to get herself somewhere she would be spotted. My Lara was apparently found as a kitten in a bucket - I'm forever grateful. Someone in the not too distant future will be thanking you for rescuing this little treasure. I hope she goes from strength to strength! x

Hello Magic! Aren't you gorgeous.

She looks JUST like Georgia, the kitten my sister has just adopted. :D She might just have wandered away from the 'nest' like my Willow did. I can't believe anyone would have abandoned her.

But she is in the right place now. :D :D

Fingers crossed for her. What are you feeding her? Kitten food is known for upset tums, especially when they haven't had long enough with mum

She is so beautiful and has certainly landed in the right place. I wouldn't mind betting that she was the only mostly black cat in the litter and she's just been thrown out for that reason - but we'll never know of course. It's so great that she knows how to use her litter!

All fusses passed on and purred to! She is very sweet, and so tiny I'm amazed she survived. She's a real little fighter ..... as I found out when I tried to give her back end a clean up! She's an incredibly self-possessed little thing, doesn't wail or cry and just seems to get on with what life has thrown at her. I'm just hoping my relative inexperience doesn't let her down.

Thanks Booktigger, I was going to post some questions about her food. I rang the vet nurses and they said she had had a runny tum sometimes with them too so they'd been feeding her sensitivity food. I always keep tins of Hills i/d for poorly cats, and they said that should be fine. Everybody tells me you can't overfeed kittens, so I fed her 6 times yesterday and have left dry food in there for her. She ate about 1/2 a 450g tin of i/d yesterday, which I'd added a little warm boiled water to, and she did munch a few biscuits. Is that OK? (TMI warning) Overnight, her poo was still too soft but did have some shape to it, so that's definitely better. I can stop calling her 'the squitten'!

I've never fed a kitten prescription food, but maybe start mixing some in? Did the vets worm her?

Thanks Booktigger, yes she was wormed, and they gave me the other half of the tablet and a date to give it to her. We cooked some chicken last night and I'll give her some of that today too. Any and all suggestions gratefully received - what do you give kittens with runny tums?

I promise that I'm not going to become one of those cat mums that "coos over every deposit in the litter tray", but I've just been up to feed her (again!) and we have a proper poo-shaped poo. Hurrah! :D

I was rather taken aback by how tidy and well behaved little Magic was - more of a miniature cat than a kitten. This morning, however, her pen looked like a bomb had hit it - towels everywhere, food bowl upturned. She's obviously feeling better and is starting to be a proper little kitten again! :D

I made the mistake of popping into Pets at Home yesterday ..... who can resist the lure of cat toys when you have a kitten in the house! :D

In my defence, now that she's perkier I do feel that she needs stuff in her pen to keep her occupied, especially as she's on her own. The dangly mouse was the biggest hit, though I'm only giving her that one under supervision as I'm a bit scared she'll get caught up in it. It's for her own good, honest ..... and nothing to do with the fact that the darned thing squeaks and she's lodging in my bedroom!

Where did you get the carrier? It has a much better door than ours - much more simple.

It actually came from Tesco, about 3 years ago. It's not all that strong, but it's fine for dinky cats and kittens.
