my cat going to another person

Post by Diane »

Hi, I have this problem with my 10 year old cat. he has always been a cat that will have attention on his own terms, and has always come and gone as he wishes.

Over the last 18 months a lady a few doors up has been feeding him and allowing him in to sleep and stay.
she does not have cats or children and so the house is quiet. unlike mine where i have a 15 and 11 year old and also to female cats which are 6 years old.

now my male cat meme doesnt come home to us unless she has gone to work or away, he doesnt eat here.

she doesnt want full responsbility for him but i would say has him 90% of the time!

he doesnt want us and wants to be at her house, but she doesnt want the financial responsibility of him.

anyone have any ideas, as much as i love him, i pay all the bills for vets but get nothing back from him.

if i try to keep him in he will get spiteful and attack the other cats and then he will spray, knowing that i will let him out as i dont want the house to smell!

Hello Diane,

I'm sorry to say, but it looks like your cat has made up his mind. I've seen this happen before.

Some years ago we had neighbours, two families that lived opposite each other. Each had teenage children. One had a cat, Jess, who would spend much of the day sitting at their gate, watching the world go by. One day Jess walked across the road and sat outside the other gate - she never went back. The family she moved in with had older, (quieter) children.

The thing is, in that case the new family was more than willing to take her on and pay for everything!

Have you discussed this with your neighbour? If she is buying food for him, she's half way there anyway! It sounds very unfair on you.
