Check origin of treats
My vet told me this morning that he was visiting his brother in Australia and his brother said his dog was sick and would Pete have a look. He said he knew straight away the dog was in kidney failure. They said the only thing that they had been giving him differently was some dog treats. He checked the pack and they were made in China. He is certain that they were the cause. I have noticed some PAH and Tesco treats are made in China and don't buy them, but others might not be aware. I just don't trust Chinese made things - especially things that are to be consumed!

Heck, that's a worry
I've never checked the origin of treats but will definitely do so now
Thanks for the warning

That's scary! Thanks for the warning Mark.
I have noticed there are some really rubbishy toys out there too - also made in China! Sad that a nation that gave us so many wonderful things is now the main producer of dangerous tat.

Re: Check origin of treats
Thank you for the warning. We've just taken our cat home from the vets after 3 days on a drip from kidney failure. We are taking every day as it comes at the moment and have been told the prognosis isn't good. We do give them treats but can't now because of his condition. He is only 7 so we have been wondering what could have caused it. Ethylene Glycol (antifreeze/coolant) is one suspect, although no reason to believe this, just that he was an outdoor cat so could have found some in the neighbourhood. We give them Dreamies and Felix treats that don't seem to be made in China but you never know.
