Re: Ooooops ...... one more foster!
Pugwash already looks unrecognisable from the dirty grey scrap that you first brought into your home, he has filled out lots hasn't he, soon you may mistake him for one of the cushions on your sofa !!!!
what a happy Pugwash he is ...

Re: Ooooops ...... one more foster!
What a great update, his condition has improved immensely. He looks very much at home on that sofa. Big smiles here.

Re: Ooooops ...... one more foster!
I hope I'm not tempting fate here, but Pugwash came down again for a couple of hours last night. He's not remotely bothered by other cats and just leaves them alone, and because he's elderly and frail the others don't seem to view him as a threat. It was only concern after the experience with Baxter (a previous foster cat) starting to bully the others that made me take him back upstairs again at bedtime. I suspect he's found his forever home, the rescue have agreed to cover his medical bills and leave him with me as a permanent foster, like Basil.
Re: Ooooops ...... one more foster!
Helen that is fabulous news I'm thrilled for you and for Pugwash. He's just so grateful to finally have a loving home and to know what it feels like to be loved. His story really is a heartwarming one. Well done to you!!

That's lovely news Helen. We need something heart-warming and uplifting with what is going on in the world right now. Fusses to the little fella and a big 'well done' to you.

Re: Ooooops ...... one more foster!
What lovely news, I suspected that might be the case
Have you left him free range now? I suspect he already has his eye on a spot on your sofa
I'm sure he'll repay your care and kindness with purrs and headbutts, just in time for Christmas too.

Oh, how lovely, Helen. I am so happy for Pugwash and for you. I don't think there is anything more precious than an elderly furbabe. I am so glad he has his own loving home now with you.

Re: Ooooops ...... one more foster!
Thanks everyone - I'm really pleased, and OH has forgiven all and is happy too.
Mostly for Basil and Grumpy Nellie's sake, Pugwash is still only coming down to join us for the evening and under supervision, though even Basil now only hisses when he goes right up to him. After seeing my lot so upset by Baxter recently, I'm taking it slowly, and also Pugwash has yet to use any of the trays downstairs and is due for his dental in a week. I thought he might appreciate still having his own sanctuary after that, so I'll keep him based upstairs until he recovers from the GA.

Re: Ooooops ...... one more foster!
Touch wood, but it seems to be slow but steady progress. Basil is getting less huffy when he's around, and I watched Pugwash and Daz touch noses yesterday for the first time, no growling. Pugwash is very good at just getting the message and backing off when they hiss or growl, but seems quite relaxed about it - I've not once heard him hiss or growl back. I'm starting to dare to think that he's going to fit in well, he's like the rest of my gang and just wants a quiet life and no trouble.

Re: Ooooops ...... one more foster!
I put this pic on the 'Christmas cats' thread, but thought it ought to go here too. Pugwash, bless him, has turned out be be a very patient, agreeable sort of cat and was a sweetheart about wearing his Chrismas cape ........ which is more than I could say any of the rest of my gang are. There was a hat, but apparently a hat was a step too far!

Re: Ooooops ...... one more foster!
He really has, bless him. I'd thought he must have been a fine looking cat in his day, but I had no idea just how handsome he must have been - and is now becoming again. Of course, no cat deserves to be living the life that he was, but it really makes me wonder what happened to him and how such a gorgeous cat ended up in that state. He has obviously been loved at some point, too, as he's such a cuddlebunny.
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d154/ ... 040083.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I'm beginning to get some understanding of how he survived all that time out on his own. He must have been begging for scraps and had competition, as if you try to give him a treat he changes altogether and nearly has your hand off - he grabs, violently, with both teeth and claws. He also gets very, very huffy about not being allowed into the kitchen (he's sussed the kitchen is the source of all food) if he thinks food is around and growls if you try to move him away from the door. It's a real Jekyll and Hyde change - take food out of the equation and he reverts back to being trusting and very cooperative.
So, I think we're going to have to be careful and stick, firmly, to feeding him at certain times to try to curb his bad behaviour. I can't blame him for being that way, but I really don't want to encourage it.
Mark, how's Dom's behaviour working out?

Re: Ooooops ...... one more foster!
In some ways Pugwash reminds me of our Tom. After years of being an outdoor only 'cat who walks by himself' (and with the family dog!) he has found comfort and warmth in his retirement - and so he should!
Please give the little 'cuddlebunny' a fuss from me and Tom sends a friendly head bump!

And he's making the most of it! Good progress - last night was the first time Pugwash felt relaxed enough downstairs to curl up on the sofa and fall asleep.

Re: Ooooops ...... one more foster!
I'm a prize ****. I wrote in my diary that Pugwash was due his dental on Wednesday 23rd December, and only realised my mistake on the morning of Wednesday 24th!
So he had a stay of execution, got to enjoy his turkey and pheasant bits with all his (manky) teeth and is now booked in for his dental again on Monday.

Re: Ooooops ...... one more foster!
They said I could pick him up when they called, so I went straight down there. He's fine, thanks, and is tucking into his food right now. He lost a LOT of teeth, and now only has three canines left - everything else has gone. Some were already broken off and they had to remove the roots, and some were infected, but apparently they all came out really easily and he should definitely feel a lot better now they've gone.
